Overview & History

Rajgir, meaning "The City of Kings," was the first capital of the kingdom of Magadha. Set in a green valley surrounded by rocky hills, it is a site of immense historical and religious importance for Buddhists, Jains, and Hindus alike. Lord Buddha spent many years here delivering sermons, and Lord Mahavira spent 14 rainy seasons in Rajgir and nearby Nalanda.
